General Summary

Proper maintenance of manufacturing equipment is essential to deliver reliable production performance. This position is the primary contributor of reliable machine performance to achieve manufacturing objectives. Responsibilities include upkeep, repair, troubleshooting, and overhaul of existing electromechanical equipment. Knowledge gained informs selection, implementation, and adoption of new equipment.

Principal

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Performs Preventative Maintenance (PM) on a wide variety of production equipment, including processing and packaging equipment, and schedules PM tasks to align with production availability.
  • Performs Demand Maintenance (DM) as needed in response to unexpected downtime, material deviations, quality issues, or safety concerns.
  • Tracks time and parts used per maintenance task with CMMS, requests purchase of replacement parts, and recommends stock levels of spare parts.
  • Actively participates in the development and installation of capital projects for the introduction of new equipment and redesign of existing equipment, providing input on machine modifications and implementing approved changes.
  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives through participation in cross‑functional teams and ongoing training of machine operators on effective use, basic preventative maintenance, cleaning, and equipment setup.
  • Communicates performance issues to the appropriate groups regarding equipment, processes, and materials across shifts using verbal and/or written electronic communication.
  • Maintains equipment and work area in a clean, well‑cared‑for manner.
  • Might lead and train other mechanics and/or apprentice mechanics on assigned jobs.
  • Complies with federal and state Hazardous Waste regulations, including proper handling, storing, and labeling of chemicals, and is familiar with Crayola’s Emergency Action Procedure for spills or leaks.
  • Works scheduled production weekends and overtime as needed; may be asked to work unscheduled production weekends to execute PMs and provide coverage.
Job Specifications
  • High School or GED Degree required;
    Technical Associate’s Degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in maintaining electromechanical equipment, preferably in high‑volume manufacturing. Successful completion of Crayola’s Technical Apprenticeship program – 1st tier – is an advantage.
  • Working knowledge of at least three of the following areas is preferred: systematic troubleshooting, low‑to‑high speed packaging, industrial robots, plumbing, metal fabrication, industrial electricity, industrial control systems, and equipment rigging.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair simple electrical systems, identifying faulty components such as motors, fuses, heaters, limit switches, electric motor clutches, and brakes.
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
