Job DescriptionJob Title: Special Education Paraprofessional

Special Education Paraprofessional assists certified special education personnel with the instruction, management and medical needs of students within an instructional setting. Typical responsibilities include but are not restricted to the following essential functions:
- Works with students in class with curriculum tasks and assignments, guiding and helping, but not teaching.
- Under supervision of the teacher, works with the student to reinforce and master material initially introduced by bargaining unit members.
- Establishes, as fully as possible, a supportive and working relationship with the student(s).
- Maintains behavior management procedures and follows classroom routines.
- Serves as a member of the IEPT (Individual Educational Plan Team) when appropriate.
- Gives assistance relative to physical needs of student(s), as needed.
- Serves as a resource person to any guest teacher in the absence of the classroom teacher.
8. Informs the special education teacher of any problems or special information about students(s). - Demonstrates appropriate reading, writing, and communication skills.
- 10.Works effectively with special needs children.
- Other duties as assigned in the workday.
Minimum
Job Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree or 60 Semester Hours or passed the ETS Para Pro Assessment
- Experience with technology
- Experience working with students or in a school setting
- Ability to work cooperatively as member of a team and ability to work independently
- Medical training to support a student with a seizure disorder
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat to work with students
- The physical stamina to move rapidly or run to prevent a student from eloping (running away) or harming themselves.
- Ability to actively supervise children indoors and outdoors, as requested.
- Ability to support hygiene and self-care needs of students, as requested, including diapering, cleaning and assisting students with bathroom needs.

Salary Data:$18.54 - $19.06 based on education and related experience as a paraprofessional or teacher.
