Position Summary

The Embryologist is responsible for performing and supporting all aspects of animal (bovine) in vitro fertilization (IVF) and embryo production. This role requires strict adherence to laboratory protocols, attention to detail, and consistent application of aseptic technique. The Embryologist works closely with veterinarians, laboratory staff, and management to ensure high-quality embryo production and accurate documentation.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The duties listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required:

  • Perform oocyte identification and grading at various satellite locations for OPU
  • Correctly label and record semen to be used for IVF that is dropped off at the OPU
  • Maintain strict aseptic technique and laboratory cleanliness standards
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) precisely and consistently
  • Accurately record laboratory data, results, and inventory in electronic and paper systems
  • Assist with laboratory equipment setup, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Participate in quality control, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with biosecurity, safety, and animal welfare regulations
  • Communicate effectively with laboratory team members and management
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of the beef reproductive industry
  • Willingness to travel
Work Environment
  • Laboratory setting with exposure to biological materials
  • Use of microscopes, incubators, cryogenic equipment, and laboratory chemicals
  • Adherence to PPE and safety protocols is required at all times
