Job Overview
The Senior Tax Accounting Specialist provides bookkeeping support services to tax clients with minimal supervision. The role starts with basic tasks and progresses to more complex deliverables, always maintaining high quality, accuracy, and timeliness. The specialist works on multiple clients across various industries and geographies, managing time and priorities to meet deadlines.
Responsibilities- Provide best‑in‑class basic accounting and financial reporting support services to clients under direct supervision.
- Perform accounting services including accounts payable, accounts receivable, account reconciliation, journal entries, general ledger maintenance, and monthly, quarterly, and year‑end reporting.
- Assist the team in accomplishing client deliverables.
- Prepare client statements and reports for next‑level review.
- Proactively communicate status of work, ask timely questions, and seek clarification from lead on client engagements when needed.
- Answer basic accounting and software questions, escalating as required.
- Meet client service expectations by adhering to quality and timeliness, and respecting time‑budget constraints.
- Respond to questions/concerns from team members and clients (internal and/or external).
- Execute defined processes and procedures, and share ideas or recommendations for improvements.
- Promptly communicate roadblocks and inefficiencies as they arise.
- Maintain and expand knowledge base of accounting principles and practices.
- Apply learning from one client engagement to the next and share insights with fellow team members.
- Stay current with updates and improvements on applicable technology platforms and obtain certifications as directed by supervisor.
- 4‑year degree.
- 3+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, or tax‑related client service experience.
- Strong proficiency in Quick Books Online and Microsoft Excel.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently while overseeing multiple client engagements simultaneously.
- Experience reviewing work or providing guidance to junior team members.
- Strong client‑service orientation with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong attention to detail, problem‑solving abilities, and intellectual curiosity.
- Commitment to confidentiality and professional integrity.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills with ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Enjoys interacting with clients and delivering exceptional service with a consultative approach.
For Madison, the pay rate range for this position is $21.59 to $37.75 per hour. For Appleton & Janesville, the pay rate range is $25.00 to $36.00 per hour. Actual compensation is influenced by factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, degrees, certifications, work arrangements, and geographic location.
