Position: Clerk - Collections Services (Library)

Collections Services Clerk

We're looking for a detail-oriented and dependable Collections Services Clerk. In this role, you'll help prepare and maintain library materials, process new books and other items, repair damaged materials, sort and distribute mail and deliveries, restock supplies, and assist with special projects, displays, and collection organization. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working independently while also collaborating with colleagues across the library.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position, averaging 19hrs/week, starting wage is $16.61 per hour. The hours for the position are flexible but afternoon availability is preferred. Please submit a cover letter and application by 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Summary:

Under general supervision, this position exists to perform organizational, clerical, and support tasks that maintain the efficient flow of materials through Collections Services.

Education/Experience/Testing Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent is required.
  • General computer experience is required.
  • Library experience is preferred.

Essential Functions:

  • Uses office and library software and equipment to perform job functions or other tasks as assigned.
  • Prepares library materials for the collection according to departmental procedures and standards.
  • Evaluates and repairs library materials according to departmental procedures and standards.
  • Ensures library mail and packages are sent, received, and distributed in a timely manner and according to departmental procedures and standards.
  • Keeps processing, mending, and other departmental supplies stocked and organized.
  • Performs regularly assigned departmental tasks; such as delivering materials to other departments, assisting with displays, shifting collections, and retrieving materials from the collection; and special projects efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Assists with the departments collection management tasks.
  • Communicates effectively and professionally with coworkers, other library divisions, and other entities verbally and in writing.
  • Participates in staff meetings and relevant trainings.
  • Maintains prompt, predictable, and regular physical attendance.
  • Responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and orderly public space within the library building and grounds.
  • Contributes to a positive, team-oriented work environment by being helpful, respectful, and approachable to both staff and the public.

Nonessential Functions:
The following are nonessential functions for this position. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Serves on staff committees.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of 25-50 pounds is required. The employee must occasionally move (pull or push) book trucks with up to 150 pounds of materials. Frequent and repeated walking, standing, sitting, climbing, reaching, bending, squatting, and twisting motions are required.

Skills:

Must be able to read, write, give, follow, and comprehend verbal and written instructions. Must have effective oral and written communication skills to communicate productively with staff and customers.
