Description Overview
The Director of Operations is responsible for assisting in the development of an Operations Excellence Program with the Corporate PWS Leader and executing it at the Plant level. The position provides supervision, support, coaching, training, and development of the Plant Operating team to enable execution of the program within the Plant. The role monitors day‑to‑day execution of Plant performance, including unplanned losses during operations, and drives improvements in overall losses related to Safety, Quality, and Productivity.
Direct reports include the Plant Operations Sanitation team.
- Promote company culture, values and principles and participate in company functions.
- Ensure that all operations comply with current Good Manufacturing Procedures, review Standard Operating Procedure changes for all plant operations, and monitor training and enforcement to ensure SOPs are followed.
- Drive continuous improvement in Safety, Quality and Productivity losses utilizing problem‑solving tools and methodologies along with operational expertise.
- Monitor key performance indicators in accordance with Operations Excellence/Work System Practices and encourage close teamwork between all functions to close gaps.
- Develop individual training and development plans for direct and indirect team reports to maximize team resources.
- Lead Root Cause Failure analysis for losses based on economic evaluation, using logic, reasoning, and calculations to identify alternative solutions.
- Recruit, hire, evaluate performance, manage attendance/payroll, plan succession, and implement recognition programs to attract and retain talent.
- Drive conformance to Work System processes with plant personnel through partnership and education.
- Ensure implementation of all repairs and modifications resulting from gap assessments, plant audits, notifications, and loss improvement activities.
- Participate in capacity or budget planning, gather and evaluate information, and present recommendations to the plant manager or other management staff.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, management, engineering, or a related discipline with 10+ years of manufacturing experience.
- FDA experience and union experience.
- Experience in infant formula or food manufacturing.
- Knowledge of Continuous Improvement methods (5S, Kaizen, Standard Work, TPM, RCA).
- Knowledge of cGMPs and experience supervising in pharmaceutical/nutritional operations.
- Experience managing infant nutritional manufacturing operations or spray‑drying facilities.
- Sound judgment and good decision‑making skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Good planning, analytical skills, and understanding of manufacturing, packaging, and/or warehousing processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication, listening, and presentation skills.
- Ability to provide work direction across multiple production areas and shifts.
- Ability to manage in high‑pressure environments.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Visio, CMMS, BI).
