Senior Controls Technician

An established mechanical/HVAC contractor is seeking a Controls Lead to support and oversee HVAC controls and building automation projects while mentoring field technicians and supporting department growth. This role requires a strong technical background in BAS/controls systems, leadership capabilities, and the ability to collaborate across project teams, clients, and field operations.

The Controls Lead will assist in the planning, design, coordination, programming, commissioning, and execution of HVAC controls and building automation projects. This individual will work closely with project managers, engineers, technicians, and leadership teams to ensure projects are completed successfully while helping develop processes, improve team performance, and provide technical guidance across all project phases.

• Lead and coordinate technician schedules and support project timelines
• Oversee HVAC controls and BAS project execution
• Provide technical troubleshooting and mentorship to field staff
• Develop control drawings, submittals, sequences of operation, network layouts, and electrical schematics
• Design and support HVAC control programming and BAS systems
• Assist with estimating, proposals, material ordering, and commissioning
• Support project managers and engineers throughout all phases of projects
• Promote collaboration, communication, and continuous improvement within the controls team
• Maintain technical expertise through ongoing industry training and certifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, HVAC, Industrial, or related field with 3+ years of controls/HVAC experience
• OR
• Associate degree with 5+ years of building automation leadership experience
• Experience with BAS platforms such as:
• Trane
• Johnson Controls
• Alerton
• Automated Logic
• Siemens
• Knowledge of the Tridium Niagara platform (Niagara4 certification preferred)
• Experience leading building automation projects from design through commissioning
• Strong understanding of HVAC systems, controls integration, networking, and commissioning
• Familiarity with Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, estimating/project management software, and construction documentation tools
• Valid driver’s license with ability to travel locally/regionally as needed
