Overview and Responsibilities

The Associate Technology Services Technician provides routine technical support by assisting with the setup, installation, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting of desktops, laptops, tablets, and related equipment and software. The position follows established procedures and specifications to support users and college operations and escalates complex or unresolved technical issues to appropriate Technology Services staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on technology equipment used in classrooms, public areas, and by employees, following established procedures and specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve routine computer, peripheral, software, and user account related issues using established procedures and available resources; escalates issues that require additional technical expertise.
  • Assist with the installation, implementation, and deployment of College technology in accordance with established design and installation specifications.
  • Provide basic troubleshooting assistance for learning management systems and other College applications.
  • Assist users with routine account-related issues and access to College systems.
  • Utilize established service desk processes and procedures to document, communicate, track, and resolve routine technical issues.
  • Collaborate with Technology Services staff and other departments to gather information and assist with resolving routine technical issues, escalating issues accordingly.
  • Follow proper escalation processes for major configuration, application, and network issues.
  • Provide basic guidance and assistance to faculty, staff, and students in the use of College systems, applications, and equipment.
  • Assist with updating training materials and procedures as directed.
  • Assist with preparing and testing technology equipment and resources for classes, seminars, meetings, and other external groups.
  • Maintain accurate records of hardware and software inventory utilizing college asset management applications.

Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Maintain basic knowledge of commonly used hardware, application, and network technology systems.
  • Basic knowledge of networking principles and client/server relationships.
  • Ability to collaborate, support, educate, and work effectively as an active member of a team.
  • Ability to operate a computer using applications, utilities, and operating systems used by the College.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and demonstrate commitment to customer service standards.
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting and repairs of computer systems, including hardware, peripherals, classroom technology, software applications, email, and network issues.
  • Knowledge in troubleshooting desktop, laptop, tablet, and mobile hardware.
  • Ability to use judgment, discretion, and decision-making skills in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
  • Knowledge of Windows and Apple operating systems, Office
    365 products, and Microsoft applications.
  • Basic Knowledge of licensure as applied to college software applications.
  • Ability to model integrity through self-awareness, personal accountability, ethical behavior, quality standards, and sustainable practices.
  • Ability to think critically by applying problem solving practices, acquiring relevant information, using technology and other resources appropriately, and evaluating alternatives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively by speaking and writing clearly, concisely, and professionally; practicing active listening; reading critically and adapting communication for audience.
  • Ability to recognize personal biases, adapt to different cultural situations, and demonstrate a commitment to respectful interactions with persons of various ethnic, cultural, socio-economic, or educational backgrounds.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 6 months of experience in IT required.
  • Currently pursuing or completed coursework in Information Technology or a related field.
  • Experience with computer installation, support, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair preferred.
