McDonough Manufacturing is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

This is a hands-on engineering position for someone who enjoys designing real machinery and seeing their work come to life. Our engineers work directly with the people who fabricate, machine, assemble, wire and test the equipment they design.

You won't be designing the same product every day. McDonough manufactures custom and highly engineered sawmill equipment, giving our engineers the opportunity to solve unique problems, improve existing equipment and develop new machinery for customers throughout North America and around the world.

Salary: $80,000–$105,000 per year, depending on experience

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will:

• Design custom machinery, assemblies and components using Solid Works.
• Create detailed manufacturing drawings and bills of material.
• Develop designs from concept through manufacturing, assembly and testing.
• Perform engineering calculations and apply sound mechanical design principles.
• Work directly with our machining, fabrication and assembly teams to resolve questions and improve designs.
• Review existing equipment and develop improvements to performance, reliability, manufacturability and cost.
• Support equipment testing and troubleshooting in our Eau Claire facility.
• Work with customers and internal teams to understand equipment requirements and develop practical solutions.
• Participate in design reviews and collaborate with other mechanical and electrical engineers.
• Support equipment installations and field troubleshooting as experience grows.
• Take increasing ownership of complete equipment and projects as your experience and knowledge develop.

We're interested in engineers who have strong mechanical aptitude, enjoy solving problems and want to work close to the manufacturing process.

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
• Experience with Solid Works or similar 3D CAD software.
• Experience designing machinery, weldments, fabricated structures, mechanical assemblies or industrial equipment.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes including machining, welding and fabrication.
• Ability to create clear and accurate manufacturing drawings.
• Strong mechanical problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with engineers, machinists, welders, assemblers, customers and suppliers.

Experience with custom machinery or industrial equipment is preferred, but we are willing to consider engineers at different experience levels who demonstrate strong mechanical ability and the desire to learn.
