American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a 13-week Labor & Delivery / OB travel assignment in Eau Claire, WI, requiring a minimum of 2 years of L&D experience and active BLS and NRP certifications.

Requirements

  • Active WI RN license or compact RN license (must be active by start date)
  • Current certifications required: BLS (AHA) and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • Minimum 2 years of L&D experience required
  • Comfort with neonatal resuscitation, labor patients, postpartum patients, couplets, and stable newborn care
  • 2 professional references required: 1 supervisor reference within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from the same specialty within the last 3 years

Responsibilities

  • Acute care hospital setting with a dedicated OB/L&D unit
  • LDRP-style role covering both labor and postpartum — RNs care for laboring patients, postpartum mothers, newborns, and couplets
  • Unit includes 8 L&D beds, 1 OR suite for C-sections, 1 triage bed, and 12 postpartum beds
  • Unit delivers approximately 100–120 births per month (1,300–1,400 per year)
  • Staffing ratios follow AWHONN guidelines
  • Common patient diagnoses include pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, postpartum hemorrhage, newborn respiratory distress, and routine pregnancy
  • RNs are required to titrate drips including oxytocin, insulin, and magnesium
  • RNs do not circulate in the OR or recover patients after general anesthesia
  • CPAP, BiPAP, and ventilators are available on the unit for newborns and managed by separate staff
  • Fetal monitoring uses GE monitors with the Fetalink EFM system; strip interpretation is supported by tele techs on another unit
  • Charting is performed in Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
  • 12-hour night shifts, 1900–0730
  • Self-scheduling with weekend rotation every 3rd Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
  • No on-call or standby requirement
  • Potential to float to other units as a sitter, in the same rotation as staff nurses
  • Orientation consists of approximately 3 days: 1 day of online training, 1 day on the labor unit, and 1 day on the postpartum unit
  • OB/Neonatologist is not in-house 24/7; anesthesia is available in-house 24/7
  • Charge nurses may or may not take an assignment; travel RNs will not serve in the charge role
  • Nurse aides and surgical techs are present on the unit
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • Candidates who have previously worked for this health system as permanent staff must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their start date, and hospital approval is required
  • Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local, which may affect the travel pay rate
