The Wisconsin DNR is hiring anLTE (Limited Term Employee) Turkey, Pheasant and Migratory Bird Biologist. This position can be stationed at any DNR workstation. Workstation assignment is dependent on applicant preference, and available office space.

Position SummaryThis position serves as the Assistant Turkey and Pheasant Specialist and Assistant Migratory Gamebird Specialist in the Bureau of Wildlife Management. This position works with the Gamebird Specialist and other Bureau of Wildlife Management staff, as well as staff from other bureaus including Natural Heritage Conservation, Law Enforcement, Customer Service and Licensing, and Office of Applied Science. This position also collaborates with other federal and state agencies, constituent groups, conservation organizations, and the media on all aspects of the turkey and pheasant program and migratory gamebird program.
This position requires travel throughout the state of WI with occasional overnight stays. The incumbent must meet and maintain eligibility requirements to drive a State fleet vehicle.
35% - Turkey and Pheasant Program Coordination:
Assist the Gamebird Specialist through collaboration with internal partners (e.g. Law Enforcement, Customer Service and Licensing) on managing spring and fall hunting seasons, harvest management, and licensing programs.
Managing dog training and trialing program.
Maintaining, organizing, producing, and interpreting reports on population and management data relative to harvest management and development of rules and regulations.
30% - Migratory Program Coordination:
Assist the Gamebird Specialist through collaboration with internal partners (e.g. Law Enforcement, Customer Service and Licensing) to establish waterfowl rules based on Fish & Wildlife Service season and population frameworks and biological parameters, manage annual migratory bird fall hunting seasons, harvest management and licensing systems.
Maintain, produce, and interpret reports on population and management data relative to harvest management and development of rules and regulations
15% Coordinate statewide surveys:
Coordinate and participate in spring population surveys related to waterfowl and migratory gamebirds, coordinate and participate in waterfowl and mourning dove banding efforts.
10% - Turkey and Pheasant Wildlife Committees:
Assist Gamebird Specialist in coordinating advisory committee meetings.
Participate on the advisory committees, and provide professional interpretation, assistance, guidance, presentations, and coordinate posting meeting notices and minutes on time.
Participate in national committees such as the Midwest Wild Turkey Working Group and National Wild Technical Pheasant Committee.
10% - Migratory Wildlife Committees:
Assist Gamebird Specialist in coordinating migratory advisory committee meetings.
Participate on the advisory committees, and provide professional interpretation, assistance, guidance, presentations, and coordinate posting meeting notices and minutes on time.
Participate in national committees such as the Mississippi Flyway Technical Section and Eastern Management Dove Unit Technical Committee.
Salary InformationThis position pays $21.27 per hour and is in pay schedule and range 15-04 in the Wildlife Biologist classification. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.
This is a Limited Term Employment (LTE) position and will not automatically lead to permanent state employment or be entitled to the same benefits as permanent employees.
