The Drop Installation Technician I performs the general labor associated with the installation of fiber optic drop facilities. Work is performed in accordance with state and local regulations in a safe manner. Due to in‑field support and on‑call requirements, the individual selected for this position will be required to reside within a 60‑minute driving distance from Eau Claire, WI.

• Perform general construction labor.
  • Assist with and perform the transportation of required construction equipment to and from the worksite.
  • Assist with and perform the placement of new drop facilities.
  • Install and/or set enclosures (buried and aerial) vaults, pedestals, and handholes.
  • Mark/label fiber optic and/or copper facilities.
  • Assist with fiber splicing and repairs.
  • Perform landscape restoration after project completion.
  • Service, clean, maintain, and repair equipment.
• Complete all related paperwork.
• Provide assistance to field services technicians, as needed.

• Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs, including obligations to customers.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and remain eligible for DOT requirements.

• Physical requirements may vary:
  Ability to climb poles, ladders, towers, and other structures; ability to kneel, dig, lift, and pull.
• Upon hire, must successfully pass all components of the Safety Course curriculum.
• Upon hire, must successfully complete customer‑specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
• Basic understanding of telecommunication products and services.
• Proven organizational skills and ability to multi‑task.
• May require occasional travel.
• Must be willing to work overtime as needed. May be required to work various/swing shifts as business needs dictate.
• Must be able to operate vehicles with manual transmissions.

The associate regularly uses hands to finger, handle, or feel and to talk or hear. The associate frequently stands; walks; stands stooped, kneels, crouches or crawls. The associate must also climb poles, ladders, towers, or other structures. The associate occasionally sits, reaches with hands and arms, climbs or balances, and tastes or smells. The associate must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.

Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The listed pay range reflects the minimum and maximum base salary. Actual offers will be based on factors such as skills, qualifications, experience, location, and role‑specific competencies. Some positions may also offer additional compensation, such as bonuses or equity awards.
