Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, performs diagnostic and service work on residential and/or light commercial HVAC equipment and accessories. Communicates with customers to answer questions, resolve problems, and ensure complete satisfaction while promoting products and services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform residential and light commercial service and maintenance calls under minimal supervision.
  • Analyze, diagnose, and resolve customer problems in a courteous, professional, timely, and accurate manner.
  • Diagnose and perform services on heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment, plus accessories.
  • Inspect equipment and conduct diagnostics to identify potential problems and prevent premature breakdowns or callbacks.
  • Complete routine maintenance and equipment cleaning as required.
  • Deliver and remove parts and equipment needed to complete service work.
  • Record all required information on a hand‑held device, complete all forms and paperwork neatly, timely, and accurately.
  • Collect payment from customers.
  • Communicate with dispatch while on duty to provide accurate status reports of activities and availability.
  • Promote products and services to customers and report replacement product sales leads to the Sales and Service Coordinator.
  • Ensure company property, vehicles, and tools are used, maintained, and properly accounted for.
  • Represent the company professionally, honestly, and ethically in all business matters and activities.
  • Follow standard procedures, ensure that the company vehicle is properly stocked, return defective warranty parts, and order/replenish vehicle stock as needed.
  • Perform similar or other duties as needed or assigned.
  • Maintain a regular, reliable attendance record.

Skills and Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED with additional training and at least 5 years’ experience in HVAC, plus technical training certification.
  • Valid licensing or certification required by federal, state, provincial, or local regulations for the geographic work area.
  • EPA and safety certifications required.
  • Skilled at servicing heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and related accessories.
  • Proficient mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate all necessary tools and equipment.
  • Proficient at reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting electrical, refrigerant, and duct systems on HVAC equipment.
  • Proficient at starting up, balancing airflow, and aligning belts and pulleys on all systems with little to no supervision.
  • Proficient at installing basic duct fittings.
  • Proficient at troubleshooting and repairing electronic air cleaners, refrigeration systems, hot water systems, steam boiler systems, and humidifiers.
  • Effective communication skills to resolve customer issues, complaints, or concerns.
  • Effective and efficient time‑management and organizational skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Available to work flexible hours and on‑call shifts as needed.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, climb ladders and attic stairs, and maneuver in attics, basements, and crawl spaces.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, and items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Good visual acuity for close, distance, and peripheral vision.
