The Village Company, headquartered in Eden Prairie, MN, creates bath, shower, hair, and body care products for the whole family under America's favorite brands. We are currently seeking a Sourcing Product Manager to join our team. This role will report to our Senior Sourcing and Operations Manager and will own assigned product categories with full responsibility for new product development from initial concept through commercial launch.
This role leads highly collaborative, cross-functional teams, including Sales, Marketing, Creative, R&D, and Operations, through the end-to-end product development lifecycle.
The Sourcing Product Manager serves as the primary owner of supplier engagement for product development activities, including RFQs, cost optimization, product specification development, compliance, and ongoing supplier performance. This role requires a self-motivated, highly organized professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys problem-solving, and is comfortable navigating complex, multi-stakeholder projects while balancing multiple priorities.
Job Duties And Responsibilities- Product Development and Cross-Functional Leadership:
Lead cross-functional teams through the development and launch of new products, line extensions, and reformulations in a highly collaborative environment. - Partner closely with U.S. and international contract manufacturers, with a strong emphasis on suppliers based in China.
- Own the end-to-end product development process from ideation through production handoff.
- Source components required for new product development, product changes, and promotional programs.
- Act as the primary liaison with contract manufacturers to define project scope, deliverables, timelines, and technical requirements.
- Develop RFQs, evaluate supplier quotes, and ensure alignment with cost targets (COGs), specifications, and quality standards.
- Proactively identify alternative sourcing options when cost, timing, or feasibility constraints arise.
- Negotiate vendor terms, pricing, MOQs, and buy quantities to meet inventory and financial objectives.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international suppliers to support innovation, cost improvement, and long-term partnerships.
- Create and manage product specifications, launch kickoff documents, and development timelines.
- Review and approve supplier component specifications, including formulas, fragrances, packaging, labels, tooling, and printed materials.
- Manage line drawing development for new bottle tooling, including CAD drawings, gram fill weights, and fill volume approvals.
- Finalize packaging specifications, including case pack dimensions, weights, TiHi configurations, and palletization details.
- Maintain accurate time-and-action calendars to ensure development milestones and launch dates are met.
- Manage all product, packaging, and formula samples for internal reviews and customer presentations.
- Oversee stability testing and third-party testing related to performance and marketing claims.
- Ensure all products comply with applicable federal regulations and industry standards.
- Provide accurate, up-to-date project status reporting and proactively escalate risks or issues that may impact timelines, cost, or quality.
- Organize and present quotes, specifications, and recommendations to cross-functional stakeholders.
- Conduct effective and complete handoffs of approved products to Production Planning and Operations.
- Required
- 3-5 years managing new product development from initial concept through product launch. Including extensive experience within sourcing, RFQs, supplier management, and cross-functional project management.
- Successful relationship management of both US and international suppliers, including China.
- Bachelor's degree (supply chain, business, sourcing, or related fields).
- Preferred
- CPG experience preferred, ideally with products/brands sold through food/drug/mass retail channels (emphasis on Walmart and Target highly desired).
- Contract Manufacturing Management
- Background in consumer packaging/or technical knowledge of packaging and printing
- Project Management certification program(s)
- Proven competence in supplier management, strategic sourcing, and negotiation.
- Highly knowledgeable about the process of creating new products, from ideation to execution.
- Experience managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accurate records.
- Competency and knowledge in general business processes and product development.
