Principal Software Engineer

The Senior Photonics & Vision Systems Engineer is a hands-on R&D role designing, developing, and validating optical, photonic, and imaging subsystems for medical devices. The role spans prototyping to production-ready designs in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and includes ownership of an imaging test lab. Strong expertise in optics, sensors, imaging systems, and lab-based development is required.

• Lead development of optical, photonic, and imaging subsystems; define architectures, performance targets, and test methods.
• Design, prototype, and integrate sensors, optics, illumination, filters, and opto-mechanical components; ensure manufacturability.
• Develop low-level firmware and drivers for image acquisition; interface with embedded processors and standard protocols.
• Establish and maintain an optics/imaging test lab; perform testing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers; maintain documentation and ensure regulatory compliance.

• Bachelor’s in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Systems Engineering, or related (Master’s/PhD preferred).
• 5+ years in optical, photonics, or imaging system development (medical device experience preferred).
• Hands-on experience designing, building, and testing imaging systems and lab experiments.
• Proficient with optical test methods, imaging interfaces, embedded firmware, and data analysis tools (Python, MATLAB).
• Familiarity with optical safety standards; strong communication, independent work, and collaboration skills.
