Status: Full Time – Exempt
Job SummaryThe Safety Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing safety protocols and ensuring that the company’s operations comply with local, state, and federal safety regulations. This role involves identifying potential hazards, conducting risk assessments, and designing solutions to mitigate risks, thereby fostering a safe working environment for all employees.
Key Responsibilities Safety Compliance- Ensure compliance with OSHA, NPFA, HAZCOM and other relevant safety regulations and standards.
- Stay updated on changes in safety laws and regulations and implement necessary changes to company policies.
- Manage certifications and permits required for operation and compliance
- Conduct regular internal safety audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards.
- Conduct safety audits with vendors and contractors to ensure their operations and training comply with company safety standards and regulations.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate identified risks and improve safety performance.
- Investigate accidents and incidents to determine their root causes.
- Develop and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence of incidents and ensure incidents are properly documented.
- Collaborate with vendors to address any safety concerns and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Manage the training and compliance of the emergency first responders across all Harland medical facilities
- Develop, maintain and deliver safety training programs and materials to employees in all areas of operation throughout the company.
- Ensure 100% compliance in annual safety training to meet requirements
- Ensure employees are knowledgeable about safety procedures and protocols.
- Oversee the selection, installation, and maintenance of safety equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE). (e.g. first aid kits, fire extinguishers, AED, eye wash, respirators, goggles).
- Ensure equipment is used correctly and maintained in good working condition.
- Develop and maintain high level safety documentation such as an emergency action plan, fire prevention plan, blood born pathogen plan and any other documents as required
- Maintain accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training, and compliance.
- Prepare and submit reports as required by regulatory agencies and company management.
- Conduct drills and exercises to ensure preparedness for various emergency scenarios.
- Coordinate and facilitate Hazardous material pick up
- Head up, manage and document the Safety Committees Globally for all of Harland Medical Systems
- Advise facilities in the installation of equipment or systems to ensure administrative, engineering and PPE controls are in place
- Work closely with other departments to ensure safety is integrated into all processes and projects.
- Act as a safety advisor and resource for management and employees.
- Education:
BS in Occupational Health & Safety (OS), Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), or a related field preferred. - Experience:
2 years of experience in safety engineering or a related field. - Certifications:
Certification in safety management (e.g., CSP, CIH) is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices (OSHA, NPFA, ISO, ANSI, etc.).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate safety information effectively to various audiences.
- Proficiency in using safety management software and tools.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Verbal communication and attention to detail in communication is essential e.g., serial numbers, sited standards, locations, etc.
- Experience working under ISO quality systems
- Basic computer skills, email, Microsoft Word, Excel
- Ability to use internet to research parts, tools, or supplies
- Ability to be available for urgent/emergency off hours building needs
- Perform other duties as required
