The Manager of Data Engineering leads the design, development, and operations of Starkey's enterprise data engineering platforms and core data warehouse, while steering their evolution toward a modern hybrid architecture. Job Summary Description / Primary Purpose of Job

The Manager of Data Engineering is a hands‑on leader responsible for the design, development, and operation of Starkey's IT data engineering platform, including data integration, transformation, and movement across cloud and on‑premise systems. This role also owns the stability, performance, and ongoing support of the core data warehouse.

You will lead a small team of developers and data engineers while partnering closely with source system and analytics teams to deliver reliable, scalable, and accessible data solutions across Starkey's global operations in a 24/7 environment.

Job Responsibilities / Results
  • This role is expected to operate as approximately 60% hand‑on technical leadership, 20% people management, and 20% business/analytics liaison.
  • Prioritize and lead the work of the team
    • Prioritization of sprint tasks
    • Assist in estimating work from a planning perspective
    • Monitor the team's quality of work and ensure processes are established and followed
  • Hire and develop direct reports
    • Collaborate with employees and leadership to support career development and growth
    • Identify and provide learning opportunities to ensure the team remains current with evolving technologies
  • Own the stability, performance, and ongoing support of the core data warehouse.
  • Own and modernise SSIS‑based data pipelines, ensuring reliability, scalability, and maintainability across enterprise workloads.
  • Design and implement Azure Data Factory (ADF) pipelines to support cloud‑first data integration and migration strategies.
  • Architect and support Operational Data Stores (ODS) to enable near real‑time data availability for downstream reporting and operational use cases.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline ODS and integration layers to reduce complexity and improve performance.
  • Design and maintain system‑to‑system integrations across ERP, operational platforms, and cloud services, ensuring data consistency and reliability.
  • Drive standardisation of ETL/ELT patterns across SSIS and ADF to support hybrid (on‑prem + Azure) data architecture.
  • Lead transition from legacy SSIS workloads to cloud‑native data integration patterns in Azure where appropriate.
  • Support the transition of Starkey's core data warehouse
    • Together with the Enterprise Analytics team, develop and execute a roadmap transitioning from traditional warehousing to a hybrid architecture with a data warehouse, data lake(s), and SaaS data services.
  • Ensure data pipeline monitoring, alerting, and failure recovery mechanisms are in place across SSIS, ADF, and other integration pipelines.
  • Provide architectural and design guidance to data consumers, acting as a business analyst partner to gather, clarify, and translate business requirements into scalable data solutions.
