Welder

This position lies out, fits, and welds fabricated components to assemble structural forms, such as frames or cabinets according to job specifications. The welder selects equipment, plans layout, assembles, and welds while applying knowledge of geometry, physical properties of metal machining weld shrinkage, and welding techniques.

Principal responsibilities include assembling and welding cabinets, roof hatches, louvers, frames, tops and bottoms per job specifications. The welder may also assemble parts by bolting and riveting, thin metal structures, and large frame structures using a welder. They may repair products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts using cutting torch, straightening press, and hand tools. The welder moves assembled products to the next production area to complete the finished product per job specification.

They ensure the safe operation of equipment, recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product, and report any problems affecting safety, equipment, tooling, and/or quality to the supervisor/lead/manager. The welder maintains full working knowledge of all processes, ensures a clean and organized work environment, and conducts themselves in a professional manner in accordance with company guidelines.

Other duties as assigned.

Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required. The welder must be tenacious in overcoming obstacles while maintaining productive and positive working relationships. They should be able to execute in a rapidly changing fast-paced environment that requires strong teamwork. The welder must understand all tools, gages, equipment, and other instruments used to perform the position, read and understand measuring tape, and have knowledge of M.I.G and T.I.G. welding techniques.

They should also have basic ability to understand blueprints, schematics, and instrumentation diagrams, and perform accurate arithmetic functions involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using decimals, percentages, fractions, and ratios.

Required:

One year of applicable welding experience and equivalent of high school diploma or G.E.D. certification. Preferred:
Vocational certification or degree and experience in a similar manufacturing setting.

The physical demands include sitting, standing, and walking throughout the building, reaching with hands and arms, standing and/or walking for prolonged periods of time, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. The welder must regularly lift up to 60 pounds and move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

The welder may work with hazardous materials, hot surfaces, hot air, electrical hazards, flames, moving machinery, and occasionally in outside weather.
