Summary

The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager positions’ primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement: “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” AIT and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management, such as cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities. Working directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team, they develop sales, recruit new teammates, provide leadership, train and motivate teammates, and act as the Store Manager in their absence.

The Assistant Manager role builds upon the AIT position and includes additional high‑level duties, while the majority of job duties and responsibilities are shared.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Pay Range: $16‑$21/hr (base rate plus commission for sales positions). Final offers are based on skill set, experience, location, qualifications and other job‑related factors.

Duties And Responsibilities

All aspects of this role involve fulfilling our mission statement, developing store performance, and ensuring a welcoming environment for guests and teammates.

Sales Generation and Guest Service
  • Greet guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and consistently provide legendary service.
  • Answer questions about the store and merchandise, recommend and help locate or obtain items based on guest needs.
  • Anticipate and fulfill guest needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe experience.
  • Demonstrate product using product knowledge and sales education, consistently sharing that knowledge with team.
  • Maintain knowledge of sales and promotions, payment and exchange policies, and security practices.
  • Remain consistent with personal sales and support team sales presentations via the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG).
  • Achieve personal sales‑per‑hour, average sales and total net sales goals set by Store Management.
  • Provide legendary service in front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms and register area.
  • Know exchange and return procedures; use them as a showmanship opportunity.
  • Fill out, and effectively use the SPG daily to accomplish goals.
  • Meet or exceed performance standards in all Buckle business builders and guest loyalty.
  • Explore ways to expand guest selection through inventory manager, advanced product search and iPad apps.
  • Build relationships with guests and develop a client‐based business.
  • Lead by example with showmanship, excellent customer service and attentiveness.
  • Communicate guest levels with team; ask business‑driven questions to manager, leaders and teammates.
  • Coachable – welcome feedback from manager to improve sales presentations.
  • Perform leadership actions and maintain high standards whether or not manager is present.
  • Plan sales goals with Store Manager and demonstrate ownership of store’s sales performance.
  • Show passion for product education and showmanship to create results.
