JOBSUMMARY
Master Technology Group (MTG) provides technology installation and support services to commercial businesses on both a local and national level.
A Fire Alarm/Security Technician is responsible for installing a wide variety of commercial fire alarm and security systems and equipment. The ideal candidate must excel in customer service skills to effectively communicate with clients, partners, other trades and fellow MTG team members.
Requirements include above-average proficiency in all responsibilities associated with the position and the capability to work independently. A Fire Alarm/Security Technician will be required to interface with the Scheduling Coordinator, Service Coordinators, and Project Managers as needed and deliver consistent, accurate, and timely results.
This role requires the capacity to effectively assist and train clients, as well as the willingness and ability to provide direction and technical expertise to other MTG team members.
The Fire Alarm/Security Technician reports directly to the Director of Labor Resources.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Read and understand blueprints and schematic diagrams
- Identify and install appropriate cable pathway, support, and concealment components
- Effectively troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair MTG-supported systems
- Participate in site surveys, when required, and communicate details to the project manager
- Maintain detailed and accurate as‑built drawings and completion notes
- Utilize and understand various test equipment, such as a digital multimeter, cable testers, and signal‑level testers
- Physical equipment and infrastructure installation, such as:
- Install, wire, device, and terminate fire alarm, access control, intrusion, and video surveillance systems
- Program, assemble, install, aim, and focus indoor and outdoor cameras
- Install a wide variety of cable pathway/support systems and components
- Install, terminate, label, and test a wide variety of low‑voltage cabling
- Assemble and mount a wide variety of equipment racks, cabinets, and panels
- Install proper grounding equipment and wiring
- Utilize company‑provided devices such as a laptop, iPad, or tablet to receive, modify, and send electronic versions of project drawings and other job‑related documents
- Complete all assigned tasks within the specified cost budget and schedule
- Stay current with and adhere to all applicable codes and associated NICET recommendations
- Stay current with all mandatory safety requirements and follow established safety practices
- Provide leadership and helpful guidance to installers. Teach “The MTG Way.”
- Effectively communicate with the Director of Labor Resources, Project Managers, Scheduling Coordinator and other MTG team members to ensure efficient workflow and administrative processes
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned
- High school graduate (minimum) plus substantial related experience
- Power Limited Technician License required
- NICET certification(s) preferred
- Familiar with all NFPA, NEC, and OSHA codes and standards
- Strong understanding of fire alarm and security systems and practical field experience
- Proficient at using a multimeter for circuit testing and troubleshooting
- Must be comfortable working at heights of 3–40 ft
- Must be able to pass a drug test in this drug‑free workplace setting
- Ability to work nights when necessary
- Some travel may be required
- Must have a clean, valid driver’s license with dependable transportation
- Regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
