PurposeTo plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development.
Duties and Responsibilities- Management of Instructional Time: The teacher prepares materials, supplies, and equipment for each lesson, starts the class quickly, gets students on task promptly, and maintains a high level of student time‑on‑task.
- Management of Student Behavior: The teacher establishes rules and procedures for routine matters, verbal participation, and student movement; monitors behavior during all activities and transitions; stops inappropriate behavior promptly and consistently while maintaining student dignity.
- Instructional Presentation: The teacher reviews previous materials, introduces the lesson and objectives, speaks fluently, presents concepts in understandable language, provides examples and demonstrations, assigns tasks with high success rates, asks appropriate questions, conducts lessons briskly while adjusting pace for understanding, makes smooth transitions, ensures assignments are clear, and summarizes key points.
- Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance: The teacher sets clear work standards and due dates, circulates during classwork to check performance, uses oral, written, and other products to assess progress, and poses questions clearly and one at a time.
- Instructional Feedback: The teacher provides corrective feedback to encourage growth, gives prompt feedback on out‑of‑class work, affirms correct responses, and sustains improvement after incorrect or no responses by probing, repeating, giving clues, or allowing more time.
- Facilitating Instruction: The teacher creates an instructional plan aligned with school and system goals, uses diagnostic data to revise objectives and tasks, keeps accurate records of student performance, ensures plans match objectives and strategies at appropriate difficulty, and utilizes available resources to support instruction.
- Interacting Within the Educational Environment: The teacher treats all students fairly and equitably, and interacts effectively with students, coworkers, parents, and the community.
- Performing Non‑Instructional Duties: The teacher carries out non‑instructional duties as assigned, adheres to laws and policies, follows a professional development plan, and demonstrates evidence of growth.

Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction; must not be on the NCDPI list of teachers no longer qualified to teach nor currently engaged in a certification revocation hearing process.
Minimum Qualifications or Standards- Physical Requirements: Ability to use classroom equipment such as computers, copiers, and special‑needs tools; minimal force to lift, carry, or move objects; consistent with light work due to standing/walking time.
- Data Conception: Ability to compare, judge, and analyze data and characteristics.
- Interpersonal Communication: Ability to convey information, receive instructions, and communicate effectively.
- Language Ability: Ability to read and write diverse documents, prepare correspondence, and instructional materials.
- Intelligence: Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and interpret technical instructions.
- Verbal Aptitude: Ability to explain procedures, follow oral and written instructions, and use professional terminology.
- Numerical Aptitude: Ability to use mathematical formulas, perform arithmetic, and apply statistics.
- Form/Spatial Aptitude: Ability to inspect items for proper dimensions.
- Motor Coordination: Ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly with office equipment.
- Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle varied items with minimal coordination.
- Color Discrimination: Ability to differentiate colors and shades.
- Interpersonal Temperament: Ability to manage stress and emergency situations effectively.
- Physical Communication: Ability to talk, hear, and communicate via telephone.
- Constant monitoring of student safety and well‑being, especially during inclusive activities.
- Ability to motivate students.
- Ability to maintain a clean and orderly environment; perform general clerical duties.
- Ability to maintain order and discipline in a classroom.
- Ability to operate common office machines and maintain basic files and records.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by assignments.
Full‑time position. Salary $3,700 to $6,048 per month.
