Description:
Special Education Teacher(s) – job code 62420 or 41800

Terms of Employment: 10 month employee (temporary if hired after contractual start date for teachers)

Reports to: Building Principal

Salary: Current teacher salary schedule

Minimum Qualifications
  • Meets certification requirements of the State of Delaware for Exceptional Children K-12.
  • Preferred certification for Autism Severe Intellectual Disability.
  • Strong content knowledge of special education.
  • Successful completion of Praxis II exam.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach students in an inclusive setting.
  • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
  • Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate superior.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and communicate these objectives to students.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strive to implement by instruction and action the district's mission statement.
  • Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide reports as required, as well as notify parents of student progress when necessary.
  • Diagnose the learning disabilities of students on a regular basis, seeking assistance of district specialists as required.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • With notice and consistent with employment commitments, be available to students and parents, within reason, for educational related purposes outside the instructional day.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
