Designer, Engineering Design & Technologists, CAD​/ AutoCAD​/ Mechanical Design

Overview

Creates, updates and revises sketches, working drawings and contract documents using CAD software or manual drafting to meet customer requirements. Prepares 2D and 3D models. Reads and comprehends detailed customer requirements, data sheets and supplier specifications. Assignments are completed utilizing information provided by project engineering, architectural, or technical services staff under a supervisor. Requires familiarity with drafting techniques and engineering concepts and terminology.

Able to read engineering drawings and blueprints. Prepares documentation to support design drawings. Prepares bills of materials, schedules, and assists engineering personnel with formal drawing transmittals and construction issues.

• Interpret scope of work and project deliverables; understand what the designer is responsible for.
• Conduct solar design work for the distribution connection of solar; design/upgrade work based on engineer group direction.
• Perform site visits to houses/business sites to assess upgrades; research maps and develop a site plan and design for upgrades using GIS.
• Provide cost estimates to the engineering group based on the design and upgrade plans.
• Prepare equipment lists, schedules, and support engineering personnel with drawing transmittals and resolving construction issues.

• Bachelor’s degree – preferred; candidates with the right mix of construction, engineering, mapping, field staking, or related experience are acceptable.
• Experience in utility design, GIS, SAP, and customer interaction is preferred (not residential/home construction).
• Background in construction, engineering, mapping, or field staking; ability to multitask; strong organizational, communication, and independent work skills; personable and well-spoken.

Construction, engineering, mapping, field staking background or related degree; utility company experience is desirable.
