Electrical Controls Engineer

Hybrid role based out of our Minneapolis office in Edina, MN. Salaried position with overtime eligibility.

Overview

Provide design and implementation support for electrical control panels, MCCs, and VFD panels in a variety of industrial and manufacturing projects. Design low‑voltage systems (480

VAC or less) and work independently as well as part of multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop electrical controls packages based on project needs and process design documentation.
  • Maintain strict adherence to client and department procedures, standards, and workflows.
  • Apply NEC standards relevant to the project.
  • Act as point of contact among electrical, other internal disciplines, and the client throughout design.
  • Develop PLC I/O schematics.
  • Develop panel layouts and bills of materials.
  • Develop three‑line diagrams for motor circuits.
  • Prepare cable schedules and conduit layouts as needed.
  • Create construction scopes of work for installation contractors.
  • Obtain technical data and price quotations from OEMs and suppliers.
  • Assist installation contractors during installation.
  • Support on‑site bid walks for contractors.
  • Participate in field start‑ups and I/O checks at client locations.
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, and prospective customers to determine optimal solutions.
  • Estimate design and execution time and provide narrative for sales proposals.
Qualifications
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in automation, electrical design, schematics, control system integration, process instrumentation, Arc Flash, VFDs, MCCs, low‑voltage power distribution, and basic industrial controls networks.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology from an ABET‑accredited institution.
  • Experience using AutoCAD, including schematic drawing and electrical package development.
  • Familiarity with AC and DC motor drives, PLCs, HMIs, I/O hardware, MCCs, and industrial control networks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards, especially NFPA.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with customers, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work individually and in a team, manage deadlines, and travel locally and overnight about 20‑25% of the time.
Physical Requirements
  • Occasional standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and handling objects up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception; ability to adjust focus.
  • May involve industrial field work with exposure to hazardous locations, inclement weather, moving mechanical parts, noise, ladders, uneven ground, stairs, and food allergens.

Compensation ranges from $78,000 to $101,000 annually, plus profit sharing, ESOP participation, 401(k) matching, and overtime.
