Fairview is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) for the Emergency Department at our Southdale location in Edina, MN.
Fairview Southdale Hospital offers care to people living and working in the southwest Twin Cities metro area. With more than 40 specialty services, we balance innovative technologies and treatments with the art of medicine to address the comprehensive needs of patients and their families.
About the Emergency Department at Southdale- Our ED is a 44-bed multifunctional private rooms, Level 3 Trauma Center that treats over 55,000 patients per year. Rooms monitor heart rhythms, oxygen saturation and blood pressure. Three rooms are equipped to handle critically ill or trauma patients, including one pediatric room. Care is provided for a range of needs including mental health and high/low acuity patients.
- Trauma Center status, Cardiac Center of Excellence, and Comprehensive Stroke Center.
- Team members include Emergency Physicians, Registered Nurses, ER Techs, Health Unit Coordinators, Mental Health Providers, Pharmacists and Case Managers.
- Ambulatory and EMS/ambulance entrances; areas are supervised by surveillance cameras with an emergency signal to summon additional help. 24-hour access to diagnostic services.

This position is 0.7 FTE (56 hours every two weeks). The shift is 8 hours in the evening, with every other weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).

Role and ResponsibilitiesThe Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care for all assigned patient populations, in accordance with policy, procedures, professional practice guidelines and the MN Nurse Practice Act. The RN coordinates care with the health care team and delegates responsibilities as appropriate.
- Assesses patient needs and identifies expected nursing outcomes.
- Collaborates with the patient, family and other health team members to develop a nursing plan as part of an integrated, comprehensive plan of care.
- Develops an individualized plan based on age, social and cultural considerations, condition and other relevant needs.
- Evaluates care and patient response to interventions and outcomes.
- Communicates effectively with the patient, family and health care team across care settings to promote partnership-based care.
- Advances care by utilizing standards, guidelines, care pathways and continuous improvement to enhance outcomes.
- Promotes a culture of evidence-based practice (EBP).
- Current Minnesota Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification must be completed before the end of orientation
- TNCC certification to be completed no more than one year post hire
- ENCP: if the RN has never had it, must be completed no more than one year post hire
- RN Emergency Department, pediatric/adult critical care, or two years of IMC RN experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN)
- ACLS certification
- Certification through the Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing (CEN or CPEN)
