Nursing Assistant - Float Pool

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a Nursing Assistant on the Float Pool at our Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN.

This role is a .7 FTE (56 hours every 2 weeks) working 8-hour night shifts. Every other weekend & rotating weekday shifts.

The float pool team is crucial because it provides flexibility and support across various departments. Float pool staff help maintain consistent patient care, reduce staff burnout, and ensure that departments aren't overwhelmed during high-demand periods. Their adaptability and cross-specialty expertise make them an invaluable resource for maintaining smooth hospital operations and high-quality care.

• Provides basic patient care by performing routine duties, including partnering with the patient care giver in care and decision making.
• Personal grooming, bathing, and toileting.
• Feeding.
• Skin care needs (clean and sterile dressing changes), applying ointments and creams.
• Oral hygiene.
• Specimen collection and testing.
• Positioning and ambulating.
• Changing linens.
• Promptly answers call lights.
• Assists nurse in monitoring patient condition.
• Accurately takes and records weights, input/output, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rates, respiration, and oxygen saturation.
• Places patient on and off monitors or equipment.
• Reports unusual findings to the RN in a timely manner.
• Assists with admissions, transfers, and discharge of patients.
• Orients patient and family to the environment.
• Assures the patient’s belongings are accounted for, documented upon admission, transfer and discharge.
• Transports patients, equipment, specimen, and supplies.
• Assures patients get to appointments on time.
• Uses transfer belt when assisting patients with transfers and/or ambulation.

• Basic Life Support (American Heart Association, Red Cross, or MTN). Ontrack participants must obtain Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers certification upon completion of the OnTrack program.
• AND one or more of the following:
• Successful completion of Fairview’s OnTrack Nursing Assistant program or another Fairview sponsored Nursing Assistant program.
• Or
• Six months of recent direct care experience in a long-term, home care or acute care setting. (Appropriate roles may include Nursing Assistant, PCA, Resident Assistant or Emergency Room Technician)
• Or
• Current enrollment in an LPN, RN or Nurse Practitioner program, and completion of one (1) semester of clinical rotation within the program.
• Or
• Current certification on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry upon hire. This requirement does not need to be maintained throughout employment and is not required if subsequently transferring into another Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech or Nursing Station Attendant position (exception: MHealth Fairview West Bank Nursing Assistants).
  
  NOTE:
  
  Individuals who have completed a Nursing Assistant program and are scheduled to take the NA Registry exam will be granted 90 days post hire to become active on the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry.

• Experience in a hospital setting.
• Vocational School education or A.A./A.S. degree.
• 1 year+ of previous Nursing Assistant or Nursing Station Tech experience.

The posted compensation range corresponds to the minimum and maximum pay rates outlined in your union agreement for the respective job classifications at the time of job posting. An individual's pay rate within this range may be influenced by various factors, including FTE, skills, knowledge, educational background, and qualifying experience as specified in the contract. If your role is eligible for a sign-on bonus, the bonus program that is approved and in place at the time of offer is what will be honored.
