A DAY IN THE LIFE
In this role the maintenance technician will be responsible for performing a variety of routine and non-routine preventative and ongoing maintenance at our retail locations. Maintenance work can range from a variety of area including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, carpentry, and machine servicing. In a day a maintenance team member could complete a variety of work orders like: replacing a motor on an HVAC unit, replacing a shorted fuse, trouble shooting a water flow issue and repairing a leaking pipe, or hanging a cork board in a break room.
The large variety of work allows our maintenance team to build a broad skills set in different areas of the maintenance field. A majority of a technician's time will be spent completing work independently, but they will often rely on other team member's knowledge and experience to tackle new or challenging issues.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
The following description of work to be performed by this individual is not intended to be all-inclusive. Rather, it focuses on the major tasks that must be accomplished. There are many necessary activities to satisfy any of the following performance guidelines.
- Provide assistance to all Lunds & Byerlys team members modeling company customer service standards at all times
- Follow appropriate equipment/tool repair and maintenance guidelines for preventive and routine maintenance to assure safety standards
- Ensure established equipment, parts and service manuals inventory guidelines are followed; maintain ongoing inventory report of equipment, parts and service manuals to ensure accurate accounting
- Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair equipment safely, following all mechanical, electrical and plumbing codes
- Maintain equipment, parts and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies
- Control downtime by prioritizing work orders according to business needs
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area ensuring workspace and storage areas are free from debris and clutter at all times. Report unsafe work environment to management
SCHEDULE
Our Maintenance Team works primarily Monday-Friday with a rotating on-call schedule that covers night and weekend emergencies.
EQUIPMENT
Each retail maintenance technician is assigned a company vehicle outfitted with all of the tools and part they will need to travel to all our locations and complete maintenance work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education:
Completion of two-year technical degree or equivalent knowledge/experience - Completion of basic industrial electricity course or equivalent experience.
- Licensing
Required:
Valid Minnesota Driver's License - Desired:
Ability to obtain and maintain a special engineer boiler permit - Experience:
Four or more years’ experience in commercial or industrial equipment and building repairs with a solid understanding of building controls - Experience utilizing computerized energy management systems (BAS)

- Demonstrated ability to read, interpret and understand instructions, equipment manuals, mechanical and electrical schematics and blueprints as well as food safety, sanitation and safety procedures
- Strong customer service, interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills
- Ability to respond to continually changing priorities and coordinate multiple projects
- Solid time management and organizational skills essential
