LIBRARY ASSISTANT I

City of Edinburg in Edinburg, TX is actively seeking a dedicated Library Assistant I to assist with organizing and providing assistance to librarians with the maintenance of the library and audiovisual materials.

This Library Assistant I position earns competitive pay of $13.38/hr
. DAY IN THE LIFE OF A LIBRARY ASSISTANT I

As a Library Assistant I, you spend your day providing high quality service, as well as promoting an accommodating, welcoming library environment. Your work typically involves providing assistance to library patrons by registering borrowers, issuing library cards and keeping records of new registrants. Assisting patrons with researching and obtaining information from the library or archival collections and assisting with the entire operations of the café shop generally fill up your day.

Your job is essential to the city, and you assist the department staff with cultural events/programs by planning and coordinating library events. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise. This can include assisting with drafting press releases and set-up for events/programs.

When you aren't assisting with events/programs, you generally are at the library cataloging and processing new and donated materials. You also ensure to repair books, DVDs and audio books and withdraw damaged or dated library materials. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A LIBRARY ASSISTANT I
  • Required

    Education:

    High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalency
  • Education Preference:
    Associates Degree
  • Required

    Work Experience:

    No experience required
  • Intermediate computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment, including Excel, Word, Publisher, database management and record keeping
  • Knowledge of Dewey Decimal System
  • Must be bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Must have a current and valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety
