The College of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) invites applications for two tenure-track faculty positions in the Department of Computer Science to begin in the fall of 2026.

The Department of Computer Science currently offers several degree programs and research opportunities in the field of computer science with a total enrollment of over 1000 students. The department offers an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Computer Science, and a PhD program in Computer Science, which began in Fall 2024. The department faculty members perform research spanning theoretical foundations, bioinformatics, machine learning, robotics, data mining, and applications of Computer Science.

Together, the programs prepare students for graduate study in Computer Science and technology-related fields, as well as careers in industry, particularly in software engineering, machine learning, human computer interaction, and web design/development. The positions are for tenure track assistant professors; however, exceptional candidates may be considered for credit toward time on tenure track or for appointment as associate professor.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have an earned doctorate degree in Computer Science or a related field from an accredited university or be expected to have completed all requirements for the degree by the start date of September 1, 2026.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have a strong publication record, and skills in communication and collaboration. Candidates should be able to teach undergraduate/graduate computer science courses and provide evidence of the ability to establish an outstanding, funded research program at UTRGV.

Preferred Qualifications

The department offers a range of research opportunities spanning theoretical foundations, bioinformatics, machine learning, robotics, data mining and its applications. Fitting in line with the department's existing strengths and areas of need, in both research and teaching, is a substantial consideration. The ideal candidate possesses the following qualities and attributes:
1) experience and/or demonstrated ability developing and teaching courses integrating machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, and/or intelligent engineering systems content,
2) experience and/or demonstrated ability to lead and propose new research projects and proposals to attract external federal, state, or private funding, such as NSF, DoD, DOE, DARPA, NIH, USDOT, NASA, or others,
3) strong communication skills and team working, and (4) demonstrated ability to play a collaborative role as a team member in initiatives for partnerships with schools, community colleges, government agencies, and industry to create an eco-system that will bring economic prosperity to the Rio Grande Valley.
