The School of Art and Design at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is hiring a One Year Lecturer to start Fall 2025 to teach in its Bachelor's/Master of Fine Arts (B.A./BFA/MFA) program in both campuses (Brownsville & Edinburg). Responsibilities include delivering quality instruction in the program, advising students, and participating in scholarship activities serving the college, university, or local community as needed.
UTRGV faculty will be expected to demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and to advancing the university, college, and program missions, as well as a commitment to UTRGV's guiding principles (http://(Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).), which include promoting access to postsecondary education to a diverse student body and to becoming one of the largest and most successful Hispanic-serving emerging research institutions in the U.S.A.
Teaching assignments may include Art Appreciation, Photography, or Art History Survey courses. This is a 60 percent workload in instruction (6 courses per academic year) with Service duties of 40 percent as Gallery Director. The Gallery Director is responsible for the operations and management of three galleries on both campus locations one hour travel distance apart. Candidates will be expected to have teaching experience and expertise in at minimum photography and art history practice.
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley, including but not exclusive to UTRGV campuses in Brownsville and Edinburg.
Minimum Qualifications
The qualifications to be considered for a one-year appointment in Art History/Gallery Director is a Master of Fine Arts degree with 18 graduate credits in the specific subject area from an accredited institution or Ph. D in hand.

Required Qualifications
One-year lecturers hired to teach Art Appreciation will be required to attend a training workshop in August (one day) on the use of D2L Brightspace and common online text. Inability to attend training may result in the cancellation of assignment.
Preferred Qualification
Teaching experience is desirable, as well as the ability to use technology to support teaching and learning. Lecturers must be willing to do assessment measures to contribute to data on assessment. Preference is given to applicants who are willing to teach and conduct gallery operations at both the Brownsville and Edinburg locations.
