A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATOR

As an Environmental Educator, you perform routine work to assist the Environmental Education Coordinator with conducting programs, tours, and activities for school groups and other visitors. Works under moderate supervision, with limited latitude for the use of imitative and independent judgment. You will conduct educational and skill-based programs on nature, the environment and wildlife. While providing interpretation on nature, the environment and wild life to the public through public outreach programs and activities at local schools and hospitals.

You may also spend your day developing, implementing and conducting educational programs, and research ideas. Your job is essential, you plan, film, and create on-line content for our You Tube Channel and Facebook page. You are constantly on your toes and ready for any new and unexpected challenges that may arise. You enjoy being helpful and have no problem providing assistance and support to other divisions within the department as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR A ENVIROMENTAL EDUCATION COORDINATOR
  • Required

    Education:

    Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two year Associate's degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
    • Education Preference:
      Bachelor Degree in related field
    • Educational Substitute:
      Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.
    • Required

      Work Experience:

      Requires over one (1) year of experience in natural history interpretation, environmental education, wildlife, and/or environmental science.
    • Work Preference:
      Three (3) years' experience in natural history interpretation, environmental education, wildlife, and/or environmental science.
  • Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
