We seek applicants for a non‑tenure‑track position in Economics at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor. The appointment will be for three years with the possibility of renewal. Candidates must obtain a Ph.D. in Economics or a closely related field by the beginning of Fall 2026. We seek excellent teachers committed to student success and social mobility. Experience teaching Economics to a culturally diverse student body in higher education is strongly preferred.
This institution is a Hispanic‑serving university located in South Texas near the U.S.–Mexico border. While this is primarily an instructional position, 10% of its workload will consist of research; modest publication is encouraged and expected.
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in Economics or a closely related field prior to the start of the Fall 2026 semester and must provide evidence of teaching effectiveness and research potential.
Discipline SpecificRequired Qualifications
Applicants must have earned at least 18 graduate credit hours in the field of Economics.
Preferred QualificationExperience teaching Economics to a diverse student body is desirable, as is the ability to use technology to support teaching and learning. It is also desirable that the applicant have an active basic, applied, or pedagogical research agenda consistent with AACSB scholarly faculty qualifications.
SalaryCommensurate with qualifications and experience.
Additional InformationUTRGV is a distributed institution; the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. The position is security sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), provided the position is at least 20 hours per week and 135 days in length.
The position may elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS if it is 40 hours per week and 135 days in length.
