Scope of Job

The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine Department of Neuro and Behavioral Health seeks an Adult General Psychiatrist for inpatient and outpatient services. The selected candidate will provide high-quality clinical care and clinical teaching, participate in scholarly activity, faculty development, patient safety and quality improvement initiatives, prepare and provide didactics, and participate in the evaluation of residents and medical students.

While previous experience in a residency program teaching role is preferred, individuals just finishing residency/fellowship training are highly encouraged to apply. Faculty are expected to administer and maintain a professional educational environment conducive to educating residents in each of the ACGME competencies, assisting them to reach their individual Milestones, and educating medical students in the practice of Psychiatry. Working within the UT Health RGV clinical mission, the Department has outstanding educational and scholarly activities for medical students and a growing Psychiatry program.

Demonstration of strong commitment to the education of residents and medical students is essential. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.

Minimum Qualifications
  • MD degree with Board Certification in General Psychiatry or board eligible.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Texas Medical License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Individuals just finishing residency/fellowship training encouraged to apply.
Salary

Commensurate with Qualifications and Experience.

  • Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to demonstrate proficiency in English: minimum TOEFL 500 (computer: 173, internet: 61) or IELTS 6.0. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Additional Information

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.

This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
