Part Time Lecturer – Literatures and Cultural Studies
Location: Rio Grande Valley, Texas (Edinburg or Brownsville campus)
FLSA: Exempt
Appointment: Part‑time; FTE varies; appointment period non‑tenure.
Scope of Job: The Department of Literatures, Language, and Cultural Studies seeks part‑time lecturers to deliver quality instruction across its programs. Responsibilities include teaching courses in all modalities (online, blended, or face‑to‑face) and, when required, providing dual‑enrollment instruction at regional high schools. The successful candidate may teach core curriculum courses in departments such as ENGL, MASC, GWSP, and FILM. Course examples include:
- ENGL 2341 – Introduction to Literature
- ENGL 2321 – Introduction to British Literature
- ENGL 2326 – Introduction to American Literature
- ENGL 1305 – Writing Cultural Studies
- MASC 2301 – Introduction to Mexican‑American Studies
- GWSP 1301 – Introduction to Gender Studies
- GWSP 2301 – Concepts in Gender & Sexuality
- FILM 2312 – History of Film
The department welcomes applicants with an open specialization and values the ability to teach online.
Minimum Qualifications- Master’s degree (MA) in English or an approved area with at least 18 graduate credits in English.
- Foundation in Literary Studies and Cultural Studies.
- Proficiency in English (TOEFL score ≥ 500 or equivalent, or IELTS score ≥ 6.0).
- Ability to teach online and/or in face‑to‑face settings.

SalaryPart‑time lecturers are compensated on a per‑segregated hour (SCH) basis, commensurate with experience and/or qualifications.
BenefitsThe position is eligible for the Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) only if employed at least 20 hours per week for a minimum of 135 days. Alternative optional retirement plan (ORP) is available for full‑time (40 hours) positions meeting the same duration.
