Special Education Co‑Teacher – Prospective Campus (2026‑2027)
Prospective High School Campus, Edinburg, TX.
Date Available:
04/21/2025. Salary Range: $57,300 – $80,668. Pay Grade: TCH.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Valid Texas teaching certificate with required special education endorsements for assignments.
- Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area.
- Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting and implementation.
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
- Highly qualified as per NCLB guidelines, if applicable to teaching assignment.
- Develop & implement lesson plans and activities for distance, virtual, or face‑to‑face learning, aligned to district curriculum and with written evidence of preparation.
- Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to develop Individual Educational Plans (IEP) via the ARD Committee process.
- Implement an instructional and/or skill development program for assigned students with written evidence of preparation.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, and resources for distance, virtual, or face‑to‑face learning that reflect students’ learning styles and needs.
- Work cooperatively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula and assist special education students in regular classes.
- Participate in ARD Committee meetings on a regular basis.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Present subject matter per IEP guidelines.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of each student.
- Plan & supervise assignments for teacher aides/volunteers.
- Use technology in teaching and learning and provide blended learning opportunities in the classroom.
- Conduct pre/post assessments.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement.
- Provide or supervise personal care, medical care, and feeding as stated in IEP.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned.
- Sponsor outside activities approved by campus principal.
- Serve as a positive role model and support the mission of the school district and campus.
- Report progress to parents.
- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
- Manage student behavior and administer discipline; intervene in crisis situations and physically restrain students as necessary per IEP.
- Consult with classroom teachers on behavior management according to IEP.
- Consult district and outside resource persons on educational, social, medical, and personal needs.
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
- Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing during scheduled conference period and/or office hours.
- Communicate daily with students or parents via Google Classroom, Google Meet, Microsoft Office 365 Email, or video conference and maintain contact log.
- Prepare and conduct ARD meetings.
- Establish and maintain open lines of communication with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
- Provide ongoing feedback of student achievement and progress monitoring.
- Provide staff development to general staff and parent training when necessary.
- Assure that ARD recommendations are followed.
- Participate in staff development activities.
- Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and special education policies.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and documents required.
- Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Perform duties safely to avoid injury.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
