Assistant/Associate Professor of Medical Education (Health System Science)
The Department of Medical Education at the UTRGV School Of Medicine seeks a highly qualified faculty member to lead and teach Health System Science primarily within the pre‑clerkship curricular years of the MD program.
Scope of Job:
- Develop, manage, and implement the Health System Science module in the pre‑clerkship curriculum.
- Teach Health System Science across the MD program and other graduate programs offered by the School of Medicine.
- Integrate instruction across other disciplines within a fully integrated curriculum.
- Prioritize excellence in teaching, mentoring first‑ and second‑year medical students, and contributing to a dynamic young medical school environment.
- Work within the hybrid Problem‑Based Learning modality while also employing traditional lecture‑based instruction.
Key Responsibilities: Teaching, curriculum development, mentoring, interdisciplinary instruction, and program integration.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Terminal doctoral degree (MD, DO, PhD, MD/PhD, Doctor of Public Health, or equivalent) with specific training or experience in health systems science or a closely related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrable expertise in Health System Science.
- Prior teaching experience in an LCME‑accredited medical school.
- One (1) year of experience with curriculum development in undergraduate medical education and/or health systems science in higher education.

Additional Information: The position may require presence at multiple locations across the Rio Grande Valley. The role is security sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code provisions. Retirement options include Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS) or Optional Retirement Program (ORP) with respective hour and tenure requirements.
