PRIMARY
PURPOSE:
The Career & Technical Education Advisor is responsible to Director of Career and Technical Education and the Campus Principal. CTE Advisor's primary purpose is to plan, implement and
evaluate the completion of a CTE program of study for all students; provide career interest and aptitude assessment activities, determine career and technical education needs, assist students and
parents with career and educational planning strategies; provide informational and recruitment sessions to middle school and high school students and parents to contribute to the District's
overall student academic achievement towards post-secondary and career preparedness.
QUALIFICATIONS:
TEA certification requirements for Counselor
Knowledge of counseling procedures, student appraisal, and career development
Strong familiarization with Special Education rules and regulations
Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff
Ability to work with groups of students and teachers
Highly Qualified as per NCLB guidelines, if applicable to teaching assignment
MAJOR
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
• To supplement the academic program by ensuring that the required use of funds are in compliance as defined in the Federal Carl
D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006.
• Provide Career & Technical Education advisement to current Edinburg CISD middle school and high school students and parents.
• Conducts process of advisement which may include: an interview, intake, assessment of academic and career goals, selection of Career & Technical Education Program of Study.
• Work jointly with Academic Counselors to create/implement a graduation plan that includes the completion of a CTE program of study, along with an aligned Industry Based Certification for all students.
• Works with administrators, teachers, employers, and other counselors for effective dissemination of occupational information to students.
• Familiarity with all CTE partnering higher education institutions' policy in regard to academic standards.
• Provides students with information on careers that are nontraditional for their gender.
• Coordinate the efforts of Career and Technical Education in serving all students.
• Supports the efforts of Career & Technical Education staff in attending Special Education ARD meetings.
• Selects, administers and interprets test instruments used in assisting students in making career choices.
• Works with administrators, counselors and career education teachers to provide orientation to students relating to coherent and rigorous academic and Career and Technical Education offerings.
• Develops and maintains a Texas Achievement Plan for each student.
• Provides counseling for Career and Technical Education students.
• Works with "feeder" schools regularly to explain CTE programs to prospective students.
• Provides opportunities for students to earn Dual Enrollment Credit, Advanced Technical Credit, and/or locally articulated credit.
• Provides opportunities for students to learn all aspects of an industry, including industry-recognized certification if appropriate.
Provides students and parents an opportunity to choose a program of study and a list of the appropriate courses needed for "completer status".
