Scope of Job:

The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is inviting applications for 4 part-time faculty in the CAPTE Candidate Doctoral Physical Therapy Program. This is a solicitation for 4 part-time senior lecturers. Faculty rank and salary will be commensurate with the applicant's experience and qualifications and based on established university and department standards. The start date for the positions is 25 Aug 2026.

The positions will require course development and instruction being provided in the summer, fall or spring academic semesters. The successful candidate will develop and teach coursework in one or more of several physical therapy courses. Courses we are seeking support for include: foundational courses such as Physical Therapy Examination Techniques and Therapeutic Exercise, specialty courses such as Health and Wellness, Chronic Disorders, Management of Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, and Orthotics and Prosthetics.

Additionally, faculty will mentor physical therapy students and participate in professional and community service. We seek applicants who are dedicated to serving the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's student body as a senior lecturer beginning in the  academic year.

Department/College

Background:

The College of Health Professions (CoHP) at UTRGV includes seven health professions departments with 11 undergraduates, twelve graduate and three doctoral degree programs. The CoHP and programmatic faculty work closely with the UTRGV School of Medicine, School of Podiatric Medicine, School of Nursing and the UT Health System to provide robust interprofessional education opportunities and training experiences for health professions students.

The Department of Physical Therapy is housed in a 55,000 sqft facility in Harlingen, Texas. The department is currently completing renovations for a state-of-the-art facility that will include three large classrooms, two large teaching laboratories, an anatomy suite with cadaveric and dry-lab teaching areas, three core research labs and ample office and student-centric learning spaces. Beginning in 2027, the building will be shared with the Department of Occupational Therapy who will have independent, state-of-the-art teaching, and research spaces.

The DPT program is a nine-semester (three-year), full-time face-to-face program. The program serves a unique role in the PT profession in general and the Rio Grande Valley specifically to improve access to and quality of physical therapy services to rural and medically underserved areas in South Texas through education, research and community engagement and outreach.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • All applicants must hold a graduate degree in physical therapy (DPTor tDPT preferred) from an accredited institution and be licensed as a physical therapist in the state of Texas.
  • The successful candidate must meet the following requirements:
    1. Demonstrateevidence of professional or community service activities /engagement
    2. Demonstrate contemporary expertise in clinical practice areas associated with their planned teaching areas (i.e.post-professional certifications, continuing education, etc.)
