Sr. Design Technician - Electric Distribution; South TX

ENTRUST Solutions Group is seeking a Sr. Design Technician to support and lead electric distribution system design projects that power communities. This position is ideal for an experienced technician who enjoys hands-on field work, developing utility design solutions, and mentoring junior team members.

This is a non-Engineer fielding and design role requiring periodic travel to client sites to gather pole data, inspect infrastructure, and ensure design accuracy.

What you'll do:

• Perform field visits to collect data on utility poles and electrical infrastructure, ensuring accuracy for design packages.
• Design overhead and underground electric distribution systems, preparing construction drawings, bills of materials, and documentation.
• Provide calculations such as pole loading, voltage drop, easement validation, permitting requirements, and cost estimating.
• Conduct pole analysis modeling, develop materials lists, perform GIS reviews, and prepare or update design prints.
• Support pre-construction activities and answer design and site-related questions.
• Review client records, GIS data, and field information to identify conflicts, verify accuracy, and incorporate updates.
• Lead junior technicians through data collection, drafting, and utility design standards.
• Manage multiple projects while meeting quality, schedule, and client expectations.
• Apply company safety rules, client standards, and regulatory requirements (RUS, NESC, permitting).
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, and construction crews, participating in walkdowns and coordination meetings.
• Work independently with strong communication and documentation practices.

Here's what you'll need:

• 2–5 years of experience in a design technician, engineering technician, or utility design role.
• Foundational experience in utility distribution network design, overhead/underground layouts, pole line design, etc.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Micro Station, or similar drafting/design software.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and utility standards.
• Client-facing experience and strong communication skills.
• Willingness to travel for fielding assignments, as needed (mileage reimbursed).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in gas and/or electric distribution design.
• Experience with DDS design software tools.
• Knowledge of GIS systems such as Small World or Bentley Utility Designer.
• Associate degree or advanced technical degree in a related field.
• Strong attention to detail, quality, and safety practices.
