• Follow resident assignment schedule and be mentally alert to communicate verbally and in writing about residents’ condition and care.
• Walk with ambulatory residents or push a wheelchair; safely perform movements such as pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching and lifting in excess of 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Perform manual tasks such as combing hair, nail care, and assisting residents with personal needs.
• Answer call lights promptly; assist with non-direct care needs (e.g., TV, telephone, personal items, meals, water, or ice).
• Provide pre- and post-meal grooming and assist residents to and from the dining room.
• Clean water pitchers, keep fresh water at bedside, and offer water or juices to residents who can drink independently.
• Assist with oral hygiene, including brushing teeth and denture care.
• Respond promptly to residents’ requests and report any needs that exceed your ability to the nursing staff.
• Knock before entering a resident’s room and request permission to enter.
• Use tactful, appropriate communication in sensitive and emotional situations.
• Promote positive public relations with residents, family members and guests.
• Observe residents and report anything unusual or abnormal to the Charge Nurse.
• Follow safety guidelines; prompt removal and cleanup of urine or bowel excretions and other spills.
• Clean wheelchairs, beds, nursing equipment, personal hygiene items and other items as directed; lift at least 25 pounds when necessary.
• Safely utilize equipment and report any needing service or repair immediately.
• Participate in emergency fire or disaster drills and other in-service training; be able to safely ascend/descend stairwells and assist in evacuation.
• Follow Universal Safety Precautions to protect self, residents and staff; rinse soiled linen and manage strong odors while wearing required personal protective equipment.
• Bring laundry barrels to the laundry room; relate linens for beds; make beds unoccupied.
• Transport residents to and from daily activities and assist with activities in the building.
• Perform clerical functions and maintain regular attendance as per facility policies.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Administrator, Director of Nursing or Charge Nurse.
