Overview

The CJIS Project Manager performs highly advanced tasks with overall responsibility for multiple information technology–driven projects within the Sheriff’s Office and associated county departments. This position will support the implementation of integrations, help streamline technology-related workflows, and move Sheriff’s Office systems into other applications. The individual will also support partnerships and integrations with other county departments. The CJIS Project Manager will be fully trained in New World and Navigator, as well as all facets of law enforcement and jail operations.

The position is responsible for assessing, planning, documenting, and executing assigned projects under the directive and leadership of Information Technology management. The individual will perform project management, research, and data analysis, and will work closely with management and leadership on project milestones and deliverables. Interface with end-users and stakeholders to gather requirements and provide updates.

Responsibilities
  • Implements new systems/applications to assist with operation efficiencies.
  • Collaborates with IT team members to support system integrations and workflow design.
  • Schedules meetings and set project timelines and milestones.
  • Meets with leadership regarding project progress, risks, and deliverables.
  • Supports implementation of integrations between Sheriff’s Office systems and other county applications.
  • Assists in streamlining technology-related workflows across law enforcement and jail operations.
  • Maintains assigned projects within their timeline and allocated budgets.
  • Tracks funding and budgetary expenditures for projects.
  • May supervise additional staff assigned to specific project tasks.
  • Performs data analysis of required project specifications and related project data.
  • Maps out project objectives, timelines, and resource projections.
  • Creates and maintains documentation for all phases of assigned projects.
  • Manages multiple, complex IT projects for the Sheriff’s Office and others as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field from an accredited college or university.

  • Two (2) years of related experience may be substituted for one (1) year of education.

Four (4) years of experience in the information technology field.

Certificates, Licenses and Registration
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification/license preferred but not required.
  • Current valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s license.
  • Must be insurable under the County’s insurance carrier.
Experience and Skills
  • Broad experience with general project management technical skills and systems.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office or Google G-Suite; cost estimating, scheduling, or issue tracking applications (e.g., Excel, MS Project, Google Sheets).
  • Experience with IT disciplines including operating systems, networks, cybersecurity, software, and databases.
  • Ability to work independently and lead multi-disciplinary teams managing multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Experience serving as a technical team lead, driving projects to completion on time and on budget.
  • Proficient in project management tools, such as Gantt charts and project timelines.
  • Ability to analyze data, interpret reports, and prepare project documentation.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to speak confidently to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to apply logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional and effective manner, even under stress.
  • Adaptability to changing project priorities and emerging technology challenges.
  • Must maintain regular attendance and fulfill duties as assigned.
