Description

This role involves delivering nursing care for inpatient wound patients through the application of the nursing process, evidence-based practice, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The focus is on wound care and supporting patient outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Ensures care is delivered in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act of Texas and ANA standards.
  • Performs family‑centered, evidence‑based nursing care through assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Implements physician orders accurately and safely.
  • Assists with admitting, discharging, and transferring patients.
  • Transcribes and implements new physician orders.
  • Adapts flexibly to unit needs and priorities.
  • Maintains detailed and accurate nursing records.
  • Provides health/therapeutic counseling, teaching, and emotional support to patients and significant others.
  • Conducts rounds on assigned patients and prioritizes patient needs.
  • Maintains a safe, clean environment for patients and coworkers.
  • Provides and receives shift reports regarding patient status.
  • Administers medications and therapies within scope of practice.
  • Formulates, modifies, and implements goal‑oriented patient care plans per facility policies.
  • Reports clinical limitations or need for assistance to supervisor.
  • Provides direction to non‑licensed nursing staff in patient care delivery.
  • Anticipates potential problems, intervenes to offset adverse impact.
  • Plans and coordinates time schedule with peers to provide coverage.
  • Participates in unit councils and hospital committees.
  • Attends mandatory unit and hospital meetings and classes.
  • Maintains current knowledge of new policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Works cooperatively to create a positive work environment and encourage teamwork.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school required (BSN preferred).
  • Current registered nurse license in Texas required.
  • ACLS certification required within 6 months of hire.
  • Certified Skin and Wound Specialist – ABWH within 12 months of hire preferred.
  • Strong clinical background in wound care preferred.
  • Cross‑training to similar areas required.
  • Hospital experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in English (verbal and written) and computer skills required.
  • Relevant certifications or competencies in the work area.
