POSITION SUMMARY:Responsible for coordinating all nursing care for patients during the intraoperative phase of the perioperative experience based on established clinical nursing practice standards. Performs nursing activities in the operating room where the circulating nurse is the patient's advocate. Makes nursing assignments for team members based on level of experience and knowledge. Answers patient needs by assisting the physician and person responsible for anesthesia care.
Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Supports DHR vision and mission. Utilizes knowledge of patient’s age and cultural diversity into the provision of patient care. Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care. Participates in the development and implementation of hospital policies and procedures, as well as making suggestions for revision of same.
Maintains open communication with all nursing staff to promote improvement in performance this position requires a sound knowledge of nursing practice and exceptional leadership abilities.
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing required
- BSN preferred at hire, required within two years or hire
- Professional certification highly preferred
- PALS certification recommended
- Willingness to be crossed trained to other areas.
- Good written and verbal communication skills required.
- Ability to read, write and speak English required
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as a charge nurse/supervisor coupled with three (3) years’ experience in the operating room preferred.
- Hospital experience preferred.
- Charge nurse experience preferred.
- Requires immediate judgment and response, occasionally in response to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills.
- Must be flexible with work scheduling.
- Involves discretion and independent action within prescribed limits.
- Ability to utilize the best nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but not limited to administering treatments and medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with other health care providers and providing education to patients and/or significant others plus the capability to assist department director / manager with supervisory responsibilities.
- Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practice
- Ensures that care is delivered to each patient in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act of the State of Texas and ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice.
- Organizes and supervises personnel to provide effective and efficient patient care management. Demonstrates strong and effective managerial techniques/skills in established lines of authority.
