Knowledgeable of wide range of disorders; cognitive, emotional, developmental, social and behavioral, performs crisis intervention. Ability to practice nursing as described by the following definition: “The diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual or potential health alternations.” Ability to utilize the best nursing process in the provision of nursing care including but not limited to administering treatments and medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with other health care providers and providing education to patients and/or significant others.

The successful candidate will be required to pass competencies for this position.

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing required. BSN preferred.
• Current registered nurse’s license in the State of Texas
• Current BLS certification.
• Accepts assignment to any behavioral health unit
• CPI training within 30 days of hire date
• Computer skills required to be effective on assigned units
• Must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
• Good written and verbal communication skills required.
• Ability to read, write and speak English
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with all levels of nursing, administration, and physicians
• Prefer hospital experience

• One (1) – two (2) years of experience preferred
• Require constant and frequent judgment and response, occasionally in response to disasters or emergencies, actual events or drills.
• Exhibits tact, enthusiasm, and patience.
• Must have excellent customer service skills.
• High degree of competency/experience in general.
• Requires good communication and organizational skills.
• Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgment.

Provide excellent customer service to all DHR customers. All employees are required to attend the DHR C.A.R.E.S program which outlines the Customer Service Principals including:

Employees must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his/her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirement relative to his or her age.
