The Psychiatric Medical Registered Nurse (RN) demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of cognitive, emotional, developmental, social, and behavioral disorders across all lifespans. Provides timely assessment, crisis intervention, and therapeutic nursing care to patients experiencing behavioral health conditions and psychiatric emergencies along with being competent in medical aspects of patient care and medical emergencies. Practices professional nursing in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and accepted standards of care, utilizing the nursing process to assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.

Delivers evidence-based, patient-centered care that promotes safety, recovery, and optimal health outcomes. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, performing comprehensive patient assessments; administering medications and therapeutic treatments; interpreting diagnostic and laboratory findings; developing and modifying individualized plans of care; collaborating with physicians and the interdisciplinary treatment team; coordinating patient care; providing patient and family education; and documenting care in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.

Demonstrates sound clinical judgment, critical thinking, and effective decision-making while managing behavioral and medical health crises and promoting a safe, therapeutic environment. Maintains compliance with all applicable regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements. The successful candidate must successfully complete all required orientation, competency validations, and annual competency assessments associated with the position

• Traditional high school diploma or general educational development (GED) certificate required.
• Graduate of accredited school of nursing required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Associate’s degree in nursing (ADN) accepted.
• Current/Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas or compact state licensure required.
• Current/Active Advance Cardiovascular (or Cardiac) Life Support within 6 months of hire
• Current/Active Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire.
• Current/Active Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 6 months of hire.
• Current/Active Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) within 6 months of hire.
• Current/Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training within 30 days of hire date and annually thereafter.
  
  Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation (ANE) competency training completed prior to competition of orientation and annually thereafter.
• Demonstrated proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and other computer applications required to support clinical documentation and patient care to be effective on assigned units.
• Demonstrates cultural competence and the ability to provide compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals from diverse cultural, ethnic, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
