Graduate Research Assistant for Health Sciences
Position:
Graduate Research Assistant – part time contract, 0.5 FTE, at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, College of Health Professions, Department of Health Sciences in Edinburg, Texas.
Scope:
The assistant will support research projects, primarily a pilot study on ergonomic risk factors and heat exposure as determinants of musculoskeletal disorders and mental wellbeing among port personnel in the Rio Grande Valley.
- Assist with research duties including literature reviews, systematic reviews, meta-analysis, data collection and data analysis.
- Support report writing and preparation for presentations.
- Help with project management: coordinating research activities, organizing databases.
- Assist with social media projects to recruit participants.
- Schedule and interact with research participants.
- Develop research-related materials as needed (e.g., recruitment announcements, training materials, protocols).
- Maintain confidentiality guidelines per study protocols.
- Act independently and as part of a team.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Admitted to a graduate degree program and in good academic standing.
- Registered full-time for the semester (9 semester credit hours in fall or spring, 3 in summer, or enough to fulfill remaining program requirements).
- Graduate degree in progress in a relevant area of focus.
- Knowledge of statistical research software such as STATA, SAS, R, SPSS and data visualization tools (Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, Red Cap, Zoom).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Interest in qualitative, quantitative, and mixed‑methods research, especially on ergonomic risk, musculoskeletal injuries, and mental health.
- Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal skills, and a pleasant demeanor.
- Previous research assistant experience preferred.
- Completion of research‑related courses or demonstrated knowledge of research processes preferred.
Salary: $1,250 per month.
Desired start date: 17 November 2025.
