PRETREATMENT INSPECTOR
City of Edinburg in Edinburg, TX is actively seeking a dedicated Pretreatment Inspector to perform technical duties for the inspection of industrial and commercial waste to ensure compliance with ordinances and state & federal requirements.
Pay: $18.95 per hour

As a Pretreatment Inspector you are responsible for maintaining pretreatment program requirements, including industrial waste surveys, long‑term monitoring plan, headworks analysis, and industrial user permitting. You schedule pretreatment activities, monitor sampling programs, and ensure compliance with permit requirements. You maintain positive working relationships with regulatory agencies, regulated industries, customers, and the public. Your role requires you to be ready for unexpected challenges and to assist other divisions within the department as needed.
QUALIFICATIONSFOR A PRETREATMENT INSPECTOR
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related field.
- Education preference:
Bachelor’s Degree with a major in chemistry and/or biology. - Educational substitute:
Additional related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. - One (1) year of experience as an inspector in the pretreatment of commercial and industrial wastes, including environmental inspection, sampling, enforcement experience.
- Preferred:
Two (2) years of experience in related fields. - Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
- Must possess a valid appropriate driver’s license with acceptable driving history.
- Must obtain Class D Wastewater Operator’s License within one year from hire.
- Must obtain Class C Wastewater Operator’s License within three years from hire.
- Must obtain Class B Wastewater Operator’s License within six (6) years from hire.
- Must have visual acuity to perform required duties.
- Applicants will be subject to a complete background investigation.
- Applicants must take and pass a pre‑employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City’s expense.
