Biological Field Technician Field Operations | Full-Time Temporary / Contract-Based | Hybrid - 50% travel | Field sites in southern Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.

Position Overview

Southern Research and Compliance LLC (SRC) is seeking a Biological Field Technician to support environmental compliance monitoring, biological field activities, and construction monitoring projects across Texas and the Southwest region. This is a full-time temporary position tied to an active project contract, with the potential to transition to a permanent role based on performance and business needs.

The role will primarily support active construction monitoring assignments, with additional opportunities across SRC's broader project portfolio. This is a hybrid role: work alternates between on-site field deployments and remote report writing and documentation from home. The ideal candidate is dependable in the field, safety-minded, capable of working in remote conditions for extended periods, and produces clean, defensible documentation that meets agency and client standards.

Key Responsibilities Field Support and Documentation
  • Assist with biological and environmental compliance activities on active project sites
  • Coordinate professionally with field leadership and construction crews
  • Maintain daily logs, GPS points, photo documentation, and clear field notes
Environmental Compliance Monitoring
  • Monitor construction activities for BMP compliance and infraction identification
  • Deliver environmental awareness training to construction personnel
  • Coordinate with agency personnel and SRC project management on compliance status
  • Assist with presence/habitat survey efforts and required documentation
  • Support pre-activity checks and MBTA breeding season bird surveys
  • Identify sensitive and ESA-listed species
Environmental Site Assessments
  • Assist with reconnaissance-level assessments and due diligence support
  • Document site conditions and compile field observations for reporting
Aquatic Surveys
  • Assist with aquatic habitat assessments and field sampling as needed
  • Work in and around water bodies in riparian and coastal environments
  • SCUBA-capable staff may support dive-related tasks when required
SRC Research and Development
  • Support SRC research activities including field methods development and data collection
  • Contribute to technical summaries, figures, and internal SOP improvements
Required Qualifications
  • B.A. or B.S. in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, Wildlife/Fisheries, or related field (Master s preferred)
  • Minimum of two years of experience supporting environmental compliance or biological field projects, Southwest border region or Texas preferred
  • Ability to pass federal security screening as required for project site access
  • Comfortable working extended field schedules (10-hour days, up to 7 days per week during active monitoring) in remote desert conditions
  • Strong documentation habits and attention to detail
  • Professional communication and ability to work around active construction operations
  • Valid driver s license and ability to travel; this position requires approximately 50% travel including potential extended out-of-state deployments
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting federal, state, or local agency environmental compliance projects
  • Bird survey experience and strong bird s (visual and by sound)
  • Native plant identification, vegetation mapping, or habitat assessment experience
  • Familiarity with linear project workflows (transportation, utilities, drainage, pipeline)
  • Current SCUBA certification (proof required if applicable)
  • Aquatic field experience (habitat assessments, wading, boat-based work)
  • OSHA 10 certification or willingness to obtain prior to deployment
  • Comfort with modern field tech (mobile data collection, GPS workflows, cloud photo logging)
