Job Description Overview:
Scout citrus orchards for pest problems including but not limited to insects, diseases and weeds. Provides daily scouting reports.
Here s what you ll do:- Walk a minimum average of 5 miles a day scouting our citrus orchards for insects, diseases, weeds, and other issues.
- Scout citrus ranches for microscopic pests, diseases, weeds and other issues.
- Occasionally place and pick up insect traps in the orchard.
- Occasionally collect soil and tissue samples for nutrient analysis.
- Perform other tasks and special projects assigned by Supervisor.
- Use current technology to complete daily scouting reports on company cell phones.
- Must understand and follow Supervisor’s directions and meet standards set for each of the jobs that may be assigned.
- Record environmental data from field samples of pest’s population and chemical application to monitor the effectiveness of integrated pest management practices.
- Performs all tasks in a safe manner. Required to wear all safety gear assigned and ask for instructions when unfamiliar or lacking knowledge of proper safety procedures.
- Valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Excellent planning and scheduling abilities.
- Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Experience with electronic devices for data entry and reporting.
- Farming experience preferred but not required.
- Citrus and entomology experience preferred but not required.
- Degrees in Agricultural Science or any Life Science preferred but not required.
- Ability to comprehend basic oral and written communication.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
- Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
