Software Engineer II
Location:
Edinburg, Texas (University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, MASS Building 2nd Floor).
Scope of Job: Perform mid-level analysis, design, development, and implementation for computer-based information systems to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and support business processes, including Student, Finance, Human Resources (ERP systems) and third‑party applications.
Description of Duties- Lead software development phases: gather, analyze, document, validate, and manage requirements; create technical design documents; adhere to department standards and the Software Development Lifecycle.
- Design and develop new, functional software programs, collaborating with stakeholders to produce technical documentation and code.
- Perform testing to validate code prior to release; debug and troubleshoot technical issues with minimal assistance.
- Conduct technical research to stay current with feasible solutions and maintain technical knowledge of enterprise administrative system modules.
- Apply mid‑level experience to execute judgment, make decisions, and support the software lifecycle.
- Participate with senior staff in developing operating standards and procedures.
- Guide junior team members on low‑impact projects or implementations to develop their technical skills.
- Act as authorized project lead for small‑sized projects involving various resources.
- Provide senior staff with development assistance and project estimates for small projects.
- Proactively contribute ideas and suggestions during team and functional meetings.
- Document solutions using standard technical formats (e.g., Use Case Model, MD050).
- Self‑teach new tools and languages at a moderate/proficient pace.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Receives specific supervision from assigned supervisor. May supervise assigned staff.
Required EducationBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or a related major from an accredited university.

Required ExperienceTwo (2) years of experience with software development, including analysis, design, development, testing, and/or implementation using one or more structured programming languages.
